The College Friend Test

Hey single ladies - Has anyone ever told you that your “picker is off" when it comes to choosing the right guy? I was known to have this problem. I couldn’t tell if my standards had dropped with the quality of dates I was finding online or I had lost sight of what I wanted in my partner. Then there was the doubt that set in if someone seemed to be too good to be true since that can also be a red flag in the dating world. When I met Todd, he fell into the “too good to be true” category and our relationship and feelings were progressing … I needed backup. I needed the people who knew me best to weigh in. I needed my field hockey teammates/college roommates!

Edisto Beach, South Carolina

Two of my roommates (and their husbands) were able to make the trip to Edisto Beach, SC. It’s a small costal island about an hour from Charleston. This place was heaven for a few days. Bikes and golf carts had their own path on the one-lane road that looped around the perimeter of Edisto. The huge oak tress are dropped in Spanish moss, which gives the enchanted forest feeling mixed with small town beach vibes. There is one grocery store, and only a handful of restaurants and shops scattered about. If you visit, 3 Gulls Creamery is must! It was perfect for exploring, hanging out around the fire pit, beach activities and introducing my new boyfriend to the crew.

The “Tests” Todd Passed With Flying Colors:

  • His personality and demeanor didn’t change to try and impress my friends

  • He was engaged and genuinely interested in getting to know them

  • One of my roommates had three boys under the age of 8 and they all loved him (kids don’t lie)

  • He had fun hanging out with the guys when the girls went into town

  • Patient with the chaotic logistics of traveling in a group (with kids)

  • All around good sport about everything

The Friends’ Opinion:

I’m happy to report my friends gave the ultimate two thumbs up on Todd!! Apparently my “picker” hadn’t failed me with this guy … This trip was a turning point in our relationship for sure. I had the added reinforcement that this guy was the real deal.
