Lunch & Tubing with the Pup
Gunpowder River (Baltimore County, Maryland)
Let the River Adventure Begin
If your dog loves water … make a date out of it!
We love to go to several spots on the Gunpowder River (Baltimore County, Maryland) that has a bank to set up a lunch spot. Our Golden Retriever, Ridley, could spend all day in the water and can entertain himself for hours if we let him. On this day, we packed a lunch, and brought our tubes since Ridley loves to swim along and hitch a ride on our floats when he gets tired.
We dropped a car at our exit point and drove our tubes and food to our launch site. The best part about this day is that it can be both relaxing and adventurous. The river can add an element of team building as you navigate through fallen trees, changing currents and rocks. The entire excursion was about 4 hours round-trip and we had a very happy, tired pup the rest of the day.
The Twist:
I was in charge of packing the lunch and snuck in a few of our favorite treats and snacks … Like the ones you love so much in the grocery store grommet section but you don’t want to pay for… ya, the really good ones! That started our lunch off on the right foot, if the gorgeous 80 degree day and scenic surroundings didn’t cut it. Don’t worry, I didn’t leave out the dog…I including his favorite treats too!
Steps for setting up this date:
Find a body of water that is safe for your dog to swim and has a slight bank to set up on.
Folding Chairs or blankets
A picnic basket of goodies
Beverages of choice
Tennis ball or toy if you’re dog likes to fetch
Towels for the aftermath
Optional:
Tubes or rafts for a float if your dog is able and interested
Pro Tip: We inflate our tubes when we arrive using a car adaptor pump like this one from Amazon.
Have a blast!
